God and Sentimentalism

Voice nor pen can describe the the awe nor the terror of the people when God's majesty, splendor, and glory, were revealed on Mount Sinai. They trembled in hearing the voice of God amidst the thunderings, lightnings, fire, smoke and the noise of the trumpet. Speaking to Moses, the people said: "Speak thou with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die." (Ex 20:19)

We don't understand how "By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth" (Psalms 33:6). The Majesty, the power, the glory, the splendor of God is incomprehensible to our finite minds, but we need to realize that God is more than human. We need to realize the majesty of God and the grandeur of His greatness! No man has ever seen the form of God, for if anyone were once to behold God they would cease to exist! Yes, men have seen Jesus for He is our mediator. From the time sin entered the world, all communication between God and man has been through Christ and Angels, yet "No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him" (John 1:18).

Even in all God's majesty and greatness, He still loves us and loves us so much that He was willing to send His Son to redeem us from sin. We are privileged to call Him 'Father', to commune with Him and talk to Him as a friend or parent. We are privileged to have a relationship with Him, but in all this, let us not forget that God is still the Majesty of all. Though God is love, He is still just, and because He is love, He has given us His law to abide by, just as any earthly parent who truly loves their child has 'laws' or 'rules' to abide by in the home. God is 100% love, yet He is 100% just and because of this, there is forgiveness and grace for the repentant sinner, but sin always has its consequences and those who will not repent and forsake their sins and be obedient to God's commands, will not enter the pearly gates of heaven.

Let us not lose sight of the love and grace of God for us individually, but let us also never forget that He is the Majesty - the only true Almighty God of the whole universe.

God's love for us is not sentimental, but it is true, noble, deep, just, perfect and beautiful. Our love for God must not be sentimental either. Our love must not be a mushy love or a 'teenage crush' type love.

True love is faith love - love that will go beyond what you can see and that does not doubt. It loves purity and holiness; it is noble and deep and obedient to all God's commands. True love for God will not bring God down to human level; on the contrary it will raise Him to His rightful place and will respect, honor and reverence God as the Majesty - the Almighty God of heaven and earth.

"Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him."
(Psalms 33:6-9)

"Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness."
(Psalms 29:2)

"O worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness: fear before him, all the earth."
(Psalms 96:9)

  1. Amen! The majesty of God fills the heart with awe and fear.... and then He draws near to us - the great God of the universe OUR FRIEND! Such a rich, powerful and surprising paradox. It thrills me.

    Thanks for sharing.

Truly, His love is so noble, so beautiful and it runs so deep... far beyond what our human minds can grasp...!
