"When All Alone.."

When I saw this scene and captured it on camera as we were walking, the first words that came to mind were "When all alone I stand, Thou art with me" When it seems that we are all alone, alone in our convictions or our beliefs, we aren't alone because God is with us. He is there to comfort, to cheer, to guide and to protect. As one of my favorite verses says:

"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." Isaiah 41:10

Oh how sweet it is to feel the presence of God, to be able to trust in Him and to know that God loves me!

Courage

This really stood out to me this morning as I was reading and I wanted to share it with you all.

"...When the religion of Christ is most held in contempt, when His law is most despised, then should our zeal be the warmest and our courage and firmness the most unflinching. To stand in defense of truth and righteousness when the majority forsake us, to fight the battles of the Lord when champions are few--this will be our test. At this time we must gather warmth from the coldness of others, courage from their cowardice, and loyalty from their treason..." (Testimonies Volume 5 p. 136)

"..what is sweetness?"

I told my sister the other day, "I don't care to be very pretty, I just to be sweet and to love like Jesus does."
I discussed it with her. We talked about different people who were like that. I pondered it. What made them that way? Smilieness? being super friendly? having a good self-esteem?... what exactly? I knew it all contributed, but the big thing - what was it? I wondered. Then I heard a sermon, in it was mentioned how a sweet freshness will flow from those who live in self-forgetfulness. How? By reading God's word. There was my answer!
I know it's definitely not simple... often I realize how selfish my heart really is. I catch my thoughts focusing on myself and what I want to do, and how I can do it.
One evening, after tea I just felt like checking my emails and the newest with the blogs I follow. Then I remembered the dishes. Now, while I don't mind doing them and like getting the job done, it's not my very favorite. Then a had a bit a reality check.

My sister will generally do them even if she's tired, been working herself off her feet looking after the boys all day. She rarely asks me to do them. Then I realized how selfish my heart was. She didn't think of how do get out of it. Sometimes I didn't necessarily want to get out of it, but just did other jobs instead. Because I didn't want to do it. But I recognized that in fighting the selfish inclination, I would help myself. I did those dishes. ...and when I did, I had the satisfaction of a job well-done, and a victory won.

Father, I know I can't do it on my own - but I choose to follow You wherever You lead. Through Jesus, I'll obey You... and by Your grace I will become like Him. Thank-You Father!

Circumstances

"Circumstances often break men to pieces. This is permitted, not to crush them, but to make them more useful."

"God never would send you the darkness
If He knew you could bear the light;
And you would not trust to His guiding hand
If the way were always bright."

A Brand New Day

Just the other morning I was looking out over the fog covered lake down in between the hills. It was getting light but the sun wasn't up just yet. The thought all of a sudden hit me, this was a brand new day! A new day to start anew. To not repeat the mistakes of before and to strive with all my heart to make the moments that pass be worth the living.

“It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” (Leviticus 3:22-23)

This is another morning. A brand new day. I am thankful to have passed the night in safety and to have awaken. This is a new day for me to reconsecrate my life to the Lord. It is a new day to live for Him and to strive to be the best I can be and to meet the trials that may come in His strength. It is a new day to cling to the promises of God, a new day to pray, to love, to be cheerful, to live for God.

Thank you Lord for another day, for a brand new day!

Our Heart the Most Precious Offering

Although I have had many things that have cruised through my head that I thought to write about, I just haven't had the time to do that. So for now... Here are a few thoughts to ponder that were a blessing to me when I read them.

Our Heart the Most Precious Offering

"My son [my daughter], give me thine heart, and let thine eyes observe my ways. Proverbs 23:26.

"Give to God the most precious offering that it is possible for you to make; give Him your heart. He speaks to you saying, "My son, My daughter, give Me thine heart. Though your sins be as scarlet, I will make them white as snow; for I will cleanse you with My own blood. I will make you members of My family--children of the heavenly King. Take My forgiveness, My peace which I freely give you. I will clothe you with My own righteousness,--the wedding garment,--and make you fit for the marriage supper of the Lamb. When clothed in My righteousness, through prayer, through watchfulness, through diligent study of My Word, you will be able to reach a high standard. You will understand the truth, and your character will be molded by a divine influence.

"The heart in which Jesus makes His abode will be quickened, purified, guided, and ruled by the Holy Spirit, and the human agent will make strenuous efforts to bring his character into harmony with God. He will avoid everything that is contrary to the revealed will and mind of God.

"Such a life ... will be full of comfort, full of satisfaction, because you are bringing heaven into your life, peace into your soul. . . . I would that all the young could understand how precious is the offering of a youthful heart to God. How lovingly the angels guard the steps of God-fearing, God-loving youth. Jesus knows them by name, and their example is helping other youth to do right. The youth who has hidden within the heart and mind a store of God's words of caution and encouragement, of His precious pearls of promise, from which he can draw at any time, will be a living channel of light."
